What Causes Sharp Shoulder Pain After A Laproscopic Surgery?

default
Posted on Mon, 28 Jul 2014
Question: Hi there. 6 days ago I had laproscopic surgery to deroof my parapelvic cysts from my kidney. Since 5 days ago I had a sharp pain in that side and shoulder which urologists told me to breathe deeply to remove so I don't get a chest infection. I thought I had done that. But after another day I started getting quite an intense cough. When I got home 3 days ago I spent the next 24 hours either asleep or vomiting. Vomitting stopped yesterday and coughing is getting worse that it hurts in between my breasts and of course where I had my surgery. It also is affected when I manage to eat or drink something cold, but settles with warm items, i now also have a runny nose and sneezing like s cold. Do you think I should go up to emergency department to see what they can do? Or wait it out?
Thank you

Brief Answer:
Possibly due to atelectasis

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic

Greetings of the day

Dear Ms

The cause of symptoms is likely to be due to post operative atelectasis. It would have possibly lead to respiratory infection.

If the following criteria are fulfilled there is no cause for concern

1. No persistent vomiting
2. Absence of fever
3. Oral intake adequate
4. Normal respiration
5. No distension of abdomen

I would suggest you the following

1 Steam inhalation : 15 to 20 minutes each session twice a day

2. Warm Saline Gargling : To a glass of water add 2 spoon of common table salt. Gargle the throat with it twice a day

3. Expectorant cough syrup

Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.

Take care
