Question : Hi, I have a very sharp and prolonged pain on top of my stomach. It has been going on for 3 days now. It is on the upper part of my stomach. No diarrheal or anything like that. No fever. But the pain make me weak and non-functional. I wen to a Dr and he says it's viral but didn't give me any medication for it. What do you think it is?
I forgot to mention that I am also very bloated and feel that way too!

I appreciate your concern

Based on your description, it highly suggests that you have Gastritis or peptic ulcer disease. I would like to disagree with your doctor as its not likely to be secondary to a viral infection. PPIs and pro kinetics like metoclopramide and antispasmodic medication can be given in consultation with your doctor. Moreover, avil is an antihistamine not effective for such epigastric pain. Advil should also be avoided in such presentations. An EKG and serum amylase can be done if the pain/symptoms persist despite the above treatment to rule out other possibilities.
