Posted on Fri, 1 Jul 2016
Question: Recently, while sitting, I have experienced a shooting pain that goes down the back of my left leg down to the arch and heel of my left foot. The pain is really burning and sharp in my foot and then subsides.
I am wondering what is causing this.

Brief Answer:
Pinched nerve.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Symptoms you describe are typically found in conditions such pinched nerve.

Regarding to your age and the fact that symptoms are triggered by sitting position, most probably there is herniated disc disease of lumbosacral spine that is causing your concerns.

Another possibility is spondylosis or degerative spine disease.

It is necessary to get evaluated by a Neurologist and to have imaging studies (x-rays, MRI) of the lumbosacral spine in order to achieve a correct diagnosis.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Greetings.
