What Causes Shooting Pain In The Throat While Breathing?

Question: When I take a breath in I get many sharp shooting pain in my throat. It is much worse if I stand up straight or if I lay down especially on my left side. The pain hurts in the rib and wraps up my windpipe to my throat. I experience a very painful short of breath icy gasping feeling.

I read your question and i understand your concern. Sore throat with pain in ribs is likely a gastric discomfort and acid reflux as that is commonest cause of sore throat. I would suggest some pepto, nexium, diet lifestyle adjustments for gastric discomfort and supportive care remedies like throat lozenges, salt water gargles, garlic water mouth rinses and good oral hygiene for sore throat. Take some tylenol for the pain. If there is fever or swelling persists talk to a doctor and let them sort out other possibilities.
