Hello and welcome,

I see that you are on a short acting bronchodilator (Ventolin) and a corticosteroid inhaler (Clenil Modulite).

I will assume that you take the steroid inhaler every day, not just when needed?

I recommend working with an allergist on this. The allergist will test your breathing with spirometry to assess your baseline capacity. It's possible that you always have some baseline airway inflammation in which case an inhaler that combines a long acting bronchodilator with an inhaled steroid might help. Advair is an example of this type of inhaler. If there is chronic inflammation, this medicine will decrease that and make your airways less spasmodic so that when you do encounter something that sets you off, you may be less reactive.

In addition, an allergist can work with you in testing and providing desensitization shots which can help overtime to decrease your allergy to what is bothering you in the neighboring fields. That type of treatment, however, is for long term help, not for how you are in the next couple of weeks.

Montelukast can help some people with their asthma as well. This is a tablet/pill you take. It works differently than an antihistamine, but can help for both allergies and in some people, for their asthma too. You can try it for 1 month, and if it doesn't help your asthma in that period of time, it likely will not help.

Finally, if none of this helps, get a good quality mask to wear. You can probably find one of these at a hardware store (at least that's what we call certain stores in the US where you can purchase things for home construction and repairs). Not the kind of masks that doctors wear as that will allow pollen to get in. It should fit snugly on your face without gaps. Put that on before leaving the house. I know this is not comfortable at all, but if nothing else works, and you have to take the kids past these fields that set off your asthma, it would be worth it. I have asthma and allergies and will be wearing one of these when I plant my garden soon. (The one I wear is made by 3M Company and is called an N95.)

I hope this information helps. Please let me know if I can provide further information.
