What Causes Shortness Of Breath And Severe Chest Pain?

default
Posted on Wed, 7 Jun 2017
Question: My boyfriend is a 46 year old male. He woke up in the middle of the night with very painful chest pains. The pains are in the middle of his chest. He described the pain as heaviness and pressure. He doesn't seem to have shortness of breath or numbing. This morning the pain seems to be there when he is sitting down and eases up when he stands up. Is this something we need to get check out right away?

Brief Answer:
Take him to the hospital for evaluation!

Detailed Answer:
HI and thanks so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about what your boyfriend is experiencing. Though this is not very suggestive of a heart attack, I will like to see him evaluated and the possibility of a heart attack excluded. Other possibilities are gastritis and acid reflux into the esophagus.

In all, let him get evaluated as soon as possible. Keep me updated as you get this figured out.
