What Causes Shortness Of Breath, Mild Headache And Constant Blackouts In A Diabetic?

Posted on Wed, 15 Jun 2016
Question: I blacked out two days ago. When I woke up I was disoriented. It has been two days and my eyes hurt, shortness of breath, slight headaches and my legs feel really tight. I passed the blackout off because I had not eaten anything that day and I could have hyperventilated . But my eyes are really bothering me. I am also a diabetic. Should I be concerned?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I am Dr.Bruno. I have read your question with care and understand your concerns. Let me try to help you.

You have told me the following
1. You are a diabetic
2. You had Loss of Conscious two days ago
3. You recovered yourself
4. You were disoriented
5. Your eyes are hurting
6. You have headaches
7. Your legs are feeling really tight
8. You have shortness of breath

Based on points 2-7, I would conclude that there was a temporary loss of blood circulation to your brain which has produced all these symptoms

Point 8 suggests that probably the loss of blood circulation to brain is because the heart cannot function fully

Point 1 suggests that the reduced blood flow can be a complication of diabetes

In this regard, I would suggest that you visit ER (Emergency Room) immediately

Your doctor will check
1. Your Blood Sugar Values
2. Your Cardiac Status
3. Brain Functions and Blood Flow

Your Doctor will also give you medicines to make sure that this episode is not repeated

Hope you found the answer helpful.

If you need any clarification / have doubts / have additional questions / have follow up questions, then please do not hesitate in asking again. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care.
