Posted on Mon, 5 Oct 2015
Question: My grandson, age 14 months, falls about every day and hits his head. He has bumps and bruising. It seems like he leads with his head. His walking is pretty good, but he is kinda stiff. Could this be a problem with his vision (day care questioned)? Should we put a helmet on him. Thank you

Brief Answer:
Pretty normal, do regular follow ups

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
Usually kids fall when they start to walk at this age.
It is pretty much seen in almost all kids.
1. You have taken him for well baby check ups. Any neurological abnormalities must have been picked up by your doctor if present. If he has been examined ( especially for this reason) no need to worry.
Else discuss about this with your doctor in the next visit so that he his examined thoroughly.
2. No need for helmet. Soft padded caps or head covers can help.
A carpet on the floor is essential. Cushion sharp corners of furniture with paddings.
3. A vision check up is essential at this age. Fix an appointment with ophthalmologist.

Wishing your child speedy recovery.
