What Causes Significant Bleeding And Clots During Pregnancy?

default
Posted on Mon, 17 Nov 2014
Question: At 5 weeks 3 days pregnant after a FET pregnancy I went to the toilet where I noticed brown on toilet tissue after wiping. Within 5 minutes blood was red in colour and I then passed a significant amount of blood and clots in the next 2 hours. This was accompanied by mild cramping. I assume I have miscarried my baby. Since this happened 3 days ago I have had little if any bleeding or brown toilet tissue when urinating. Could there possibly be any other explanation for this other than miscarriage??

Brief Answer:
Get serum beta hCG and ultrasound scan

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome to health caremagic.

NO. You have not miscarried baby. This bleeding is common in initial part of pregnancy.

This happens as baby is implanting further into endometrium.

Please get serum beta hCG blood test and ultrasound scan immediately and send me the report.

Regards

How can you be sure? There was alot of red blood and clots. It was awful but not much pain. My acu has told me to do a pregnancy test after a week to see result. Its ages to wait not knowing!! Could it have bedn a subchroniac hematoma? My 3 yr okd son was born preterm at 36 weeks andive read this can be a cause if preterm laboyr? But woukdnt a hematoma have shown up on my ultrasound scans when they were checking my womb prior to embryo transfer??

Brief Answer:
hematoma

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Hematoma wouldn't occur earlier. so it wouldn't have been seen during embryo transfer. This is absolutely not reason for previous preterm labor.

It would have occurred now. Let me know what were beta hCG values earlier first time after IVF.

You can do a beta iVF blood test today and after 2 days if values are doubling then it's normal pregnancy

Thanks. I have no record of any beta HCG levels having been taken durung last oregnancy. It was just a utine sample. There is nowhere today to get any blood tests done near me. Ive bought home pregnancy tests. Is ot worth using them?? Will they not just potentially say pregnant as HCG will still be present in my urine even in a lower dose should i have already miscarried.

Brief Answer:
Yes

Detailed Answer:
Hi

The urine test is not reliable as it might stay positive for almost a week to 15 days though you miscarried.

I prefer beta hCG for accurate follow up
