Question : Started as sinus type of infection, lots of yellow/green mucus, 75% of that is gone, now inflamed lower throat area, terrible gripping mostly dry cough, have had no noticable fever at any point, in my 15th day of this "thing"! What do you think it is AND what should I do to get rid of it! By the way I am an otherwise very healthy fit 67 year old male.

Brief Answer:
upper respiratory tract infection and management options

Detailed Answer:
Hi!

Welcome to health care magic!

I am Dr. Saddiq Ul Abidin. I have read your problem in detail and will try to help you in best way possible.

Your symptoms are suggestive of upper respiratory tract infection like pharyngitis or tonsillitis. Good thing being, no associated Fever spike and since it is already on improving trend so any short course of antibiotic like azithromycin 250 mg twice daily for three days would be sufficient and I would have suggested same if you were my patient.

Taking anti histamine like loratidine 10mg twice daily would have helped with sputum and those secretions. Analgesic or anti inflammatory drugs like acetaminophen or ibuprofen would have helped with other symptoms of pain or irritation in throat.

Meanwhile gargles with XXXXXXX warm saline water will help. Hot beverages may give temporary relief. Avoiding greasy, oily and sour foods will also be needed for few days.

Hope this has answered your query, if you have any more questions, feel free to ask. kindly rate me before closing, and leave your feedback if possible.

Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ul abidin.
