What Causes Skipped Heart Beats?

default
Posted on Mon, 30 Mar 2015
Question: I have an unusual number of skipped heart beats. Sometime one to two hours straight where my heart skips once every 3-5 beats, non-stop. This has me worried. Is it dangerous. Does it have something to with imbalance of electrolytes.
Normally, I have skipped beats on the order of 6-10 during awake hours (about 16 hrs) each day.
Thanks, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Need heart monitor and electrolyte check

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

Whether skipped beats are dangerous or not depends on their amount during the day. Skipped beats up to 500 are not dangerous.
It can be caused by electrolyte imbalance as well.
I would advise you to see your doctor to undergo another 24hour holter monitor and check electrolytes.
In case there is electrolyte imbalance, it's correction wil be needed. If there will be no electrolyte imbalance but your extrasystolies became more, then there can be a need for increasing the dose of carvedilol.

Hope I could help you

Wishing you good health
