Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

Waking up and crying in the night is common in newborns during their initial few months. The common causes of excessive night time crying in infants of this age are colic, teething, gas or hunger.Giving colic drops,rocking/cuddling,giving gas relieving medication and regular feeds helps.

Look if there is any regurgitation of feed or excessive farts or infrequent stool.
Give him some analgesic like acetaminophen, gently massage the gums to alleviate the uneasiness due to teething if any.
Sometimes nasal blockade can cause excessive crying and troubled breathing.Check if there is any noisy breathing.Putting nasal saline drops in the nostril helps in relieving the blockage.
Few babies needs a lot of cuddling.Once you leave them alone on the bed during night time they start crying.Just keep you baby beside you.Wrap him in soft blanket and XXXXXXX him gently.
Crying in one or few night can be due to these problems. But if the night time crying is persistent this may be early sign of some behavioral problem.
The various researches have found that if other causes have been ruled out and the night cry is persistent, there is trouble sleeping they are likely to develop behavioral problem in future.
Try everything like cuddling, feeding, giving colic drops,pat/burp to release gas.Check whether any change in routine or surrounding environment has led to troubled sleeping.

I hope this helps.
Regards
