Question : Iam on various medications following a heart attack just 12 months ago. stents were inserted and I was discharged on statin s a beta blocker and potassium. However i have ,ever since, felt less well than prior to the original problem! Constant aches and pains, very poor sleep pattern and a general inability to get up and go. I want to stop taking all these pills and just maintain a healthy lifestyle. Is this practical, or do I need to carry on living like an invalid.? I am 78 and really can't be bothered with living for ever!

Brief Answer:
Need to be on medications

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

I understand how irritating it must be to be on multiple drugs. Let me explain why each of these medications are essential

The following drugs are extremely essential for you. If you stop them you might end up either with a thrombosed stent or a new thrombus in the arteries of the heart
1. Aspirin
2. Atorvastatin

The follwing drugs are essential for blood pressure control as well as to re model your heart
1. Bisoprolol
2. Losartan

Thyronorm needs to be taken so that you dont become hypothyroid. The guidelines indicates taking calcium supplements along with Thyronorm.

Pantaprozole can be stopped if you do not have any gastric irritation however since you're already on long term aspirin supplementation, it's always advisable to continue PPI (pantoprazole) alongwith.

I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me

Regards
