Question: How come Ambien will work for my sister and my best friend for over 5 years and I took it for just three months and it wouldn't work for me. Just wondering, very frustrated.

Brief Answer:
Responses to medicine vary a lot among people

Detailed Answer:
Your response to a medicine depends on many factors. These may include how your immune system works, the level of chemicals in your body that control nerve and body function, your stress levels, other medicines you're taking, your genetic make-up, and many others. For example, one person may be so allergic to penicillin that he may die if he takes it, while another has no problem. You may have more natural resistance to the effects of Ambien than your sister and friend. Resistance can also build up over time depending on how often and how big a dose you take. If they were taking small doses very occasionally over the 5 years, and you were taking larger doses every night for 3 months, that may also explain it. A cautionary note- Ambien is addictive and should not be used for extended periods of time.
