What Causes Slight Bleeding From The Molar Tooth Extraction Site?

default
Posted on Mon, 1 Jun 2015
Question: I had a 12 year molar extracted 5 days ago, yesterday the site began to bleed again and today I found I have a very large blood clot protruding from the wound. I have moderate pain at the extraction site, the blood clot has no feeling when touched. Can the clot be removed or is it a problem?

Brief Answer:
healing wound

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Slight bleeding from the extraction site is normal.
you might have disturbed the extraction site by eating hard food.
Not to worry. Don't disturb the blood clot.if its not bleeding now then just leave the area to heal otherwise apply pressure pack with gauge on that area.
if the doctor has prescribed you any antibiotic then do complete the course.
Rinse your mouth slowly with antiseptic mouthwash.
Dont do any strenuous work or bend and lift weights.

Hope this answer helps.

The protruding blood clot is about the size of a wet tea bag and I can't avoid chewing on it can that be cut off or will it fall out eventually?

Brief Answer:
post extraction bleeding

Detailed Answer:
The size of the clot you are telling is big.
main question is that whether its still bleedind or the bleeding has stopped completely.
If bleeding has stopped then it will heal naturally otherwise you should visit your dentist.
Slight bleeding in saliva with bits of blood is normal for 5-6 days.if its more then you should be concerned.
