GERD due to hiatus hernia
Detailed Answer:
Hello, XXXXXXX
1) Do you have nausea/vomiting other than burping and burning sensation in chest/upper part of abdomen?
2) Your symptoms suggest possibility of GERD, a condition in which loosening of junction of esophagus-stomach can allow gastric juice to enter in esophagus and produce chemical reaction (inflammation) on inner layer of wall of esophagus (esophagitis). This is responsible for development of burning sensation in chest and upper abdomen.
3) Common cause of GERD is hiatus hernia, a condition in which upper part of stomach move into chest due to widening of opening in diaphragm from which esophagus enters into abdomen. Belching, burping are symptoms associated with hiatus hernia
4) Thus according to your history you might have hiatus hernia associated GERD. Both conditions can be identified on upper GI endoscopy.
5) GERD is medical condition and require anti-acidity treatment. Hiatus hernia must be corrected with surgery only as medical treatment will only improve symptoms.
