Question: Hi - I have slight discomfort in my lower stomach, above the left side of my groin area. When I get up from a seated position my colleagues have noticed it in how I walk for the first number of steps. I have had this for a week now, although the pain remains the same I did have hernia op about 20 years ago. I am fit and row regularly for exercise YYYY@YYYY

Brief Answer:
Muscle pull is a possibility

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.

Noted your history of hernia operation 20 years ago, fir and row regularly.
Now have a slight discomfort in lower stomach above the left side of groin for about a week. Noticed by colleagues how you walk your first steps after getting up from the chair.

From the description you have provided, this seems to be the spasm of muscles in the said area. There may be local tenderness on pressure, may be slight edema. It is possible that you might have had this while rowing or so. Taking an anti-inflammatory medicine like Ibuprofen at 8 hourly interval (if this suits you) should help to ease the pain and make you comfortable.
I hope there is no bulge or impulse on coughing, which is indicative of a hernia.

Please provide me further information if you have any other symptoms. Which side of hernia was operated?

You may please get this confirmed by a clinical evaluation and examination by a General Surgeon.

I hope this answer helps you to get a proper diagnosis, and get a proper further treatment. Please feel free to ask for more or if you need further clarifications or if you feel there is a gap of communication.
