Thanks for the query. There could be several causes for the discomfort, including liver inflammation from any etiology (infection, toxic damage including medications); rarely, a person that has had a gall bladder removed can still develop stones within the ducts inside the liver.
Other than a full physical examination, your provider would probably want to start ordering some basic tests, such as ALT, AST, bilirrubin, and CBC; he may be interested in a repeat abdominal ultrasound.
