Question : Good morning Dr., I found a small lump on my opening anus. It's about the pea size and hard. I don't feel pain but feel uncomfortable sometimes. Should I visit Internal med Dr or GE Dr.? Please give your suggestion. Thanks!

Brief Answer:
hi and welcome

Detailed Answer:
Well you should see proctologist which is usually surgeon or gastroenterologist depending on hospital. He will examine your perianal area and see what happens. In this area we commonly see abscesses and stds but if this is not painful or red then it is more probably just fibroma, lipoma or cyst. In this second case it doesn't have to be treated unless it grows rapidly. In case if abscess you should be treated with antibiotics and incision. Till you do exam try to regulate your stool, have sitz baths and use soft materials for sitting. Wish you good health. Regards

Thanks Dr.!
One more question about my daughter's case, she is 7 years old. She has a soft big lump on her anus. She is bleeding heavy when making bowel movement, and she doesn't feel hurt. Is the blood come from the lump of from the inside? Any treatment to stop the bleeding? Thanks!

Brief Answer:
hi

Detailed Answer:
It is hard to say where is this bleeding coming from but in every case it isn't usual in her age and if this persists then some tests should be done such as rectoscopy or colonoscopy.most common causes in children are fissures or rectal bleeding due to straining during defecation. Lump can be lipoma or fibroma and this won't cause bleeding so it is more probable coming from colon or rectum. She should eat high fibre food to soften stools and drink more fluids.
