Brief Answer:
Canker sore...
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for posting the query.
As the ulcer has been noticed following an episode of acute upper respiratory tract infection, the most likely lesion would be a stress ulcer, also known as canker sore.
Do not worry! With appropriate measures, it can be taken care of. Use oral steroid gel (such as oral triamcilone acetate) or glycerine. Vitamin B-Complex helps in rejuvenating the tissues and re-epithelialisation of the damaged mucosa.
Also, drink lots of warm water; avoid coffee/tea/fizzy drinks/smoking/alcohol.
Hope this answers your query; I'll be available for the follow up queries.

Hi,
Thanks for responding.
A followup on this, how can we confirm if it is not a Oral HSV infection. I was told by a GP after physical examination it is a Oral Herpes infection and he has taken a swab to confirm it. i was under an impression that since the sore appeared inside the lip, it could be canker sore.
As i read from the internet, Oral herpes infections occur outside the mouth and on the lips, whereas canker sores occur inside the lips and mouth.
Please confirm.
Again Thanks for your help.

Brief Answer:
Oral Herpes is seen around the oral cavity...
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing back
What you read on the net is true. Oral herpes is seen on the muco-cutaneous junction or margins of the lip, but not inside the mucosa.
