Question : I have a cold, with sore throat, lot of coughing, no body aches; however, soreness on right side of throat, and hoarseness.
Taking Coricidin HBP, Cold and Flu, and Mucinex Fast-Max DM XXXXXXX I am 70 years old, have not had a flu shot nor pneumonia shot, Have high blood pressure, controlled with medication: atenolol 50 mg, lisinopril 20 mg, and amlodipine Besylate 10 mg. Thought it would only last 5 days; however, now its been 7 days.

Hi

Thank you for asking HCM.

I have gone through your query. Your problem can be most likely due to secondary bacterial throat infection after getting flu. In such case antibiotic therapy will be required.
I would suggest antibiotics like Co-amoxiclav in such case. This is a prescription drug given in dosage of 625 mg twice daily for 5 to 7 days.
Gargling with warm saline, steam inhalation, taking warm fluids like tea with lemon and honey, warm chicken soup with pepper etc is good also. Taking chewable vitamin C is also helpful.

Thank you. Have been eating soup, drinking tea with honey and lemon, using the saline solution. Plan to see my doctor this morning re throat infection.
