Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

I am sorry you are feeling so sick.

It is possible this is EBV (Epstein Barr Virus - which can cause mono). It's also possible that you have another virus that is going around.

When were you tested for strep (was it just a rapid strep test or also a culture) and what did the doctor think of your throat when she/he saw it at that time?

Also, have you gotten much worse since you had the strep test? And do take your temperature and let me know.

Do you have a cough? Because if you also have a non productive cough and body aches, this may be influenza.

If you are unable to drink liquids, you may need to go in to an urgent care clinic as you may need a medication to bring down the swelling.

Please write back and answer the questions above and any further information I can help you with.

Brief Answer:
Unlikely to be from the IUD

Detailed Answer:
Yes, I think you can rule out the IUD. I thought about that you had it inserted a few days ago but I think it is unlikely to be causing the sore throat.

If you have an infection or perforation related to the IUD, you would have the fever and chills like you are having, but not a sore throat. And you would have bad uterine/pelvic pain and cramps and likely a discharge.

With the fever, be sure to push fluids, even if it hurts, to avoid getting dehydrated (you need more liquids with a fever).

If you haven't been to the doctor or urgent care for a few days, or if your symptoms have worsened since you were last there, it might be a good idea to go now. They can have a look and see what is going on with your throat. And can test you for EBV/mono.
