Question: Had sore throat on left side with white patches in back x3 days that hurt top side of back of head down into shoulder when swallowing..throat feels better but pain persists from temple down behind ear into shoulder, across eye socket, jaw pain. Can't stand to eat or swallow liquids. I'm weak with no energy but can't sleep...fairly miserable. Already know have cervical disk needing surgery and been diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia, fibromyalgia, gastroparesis,HPB, diabetes, copd, ibs. Is it possible this is symptoms of any existing condition? Suggestions on how to stop/relieve pain.

Brief Answer:
Infection/inflamation of middle ear and neck should be assessed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

It is possible that symptoms you describe (pain around ear and down the neck and shoulder, difficulty swallowing) are related to worsening of existing conditions such cervical herniated disc or fibromyalgia, but, in my opinion, these symptoms may be caused by middle ear infection too.

In some cases, ear and throat infections could spread around in neck muscles causing symptoms in distance.

Feeling weak with no energy and difficulty sleeping is most likely to be related to worsening of fibromyalgia due to Inflamatory processes.

There is need to consult an ENT Doctor and to discuss about getting checked about middle ear and neck infection/inflamation.

It is a little difficult to give you a good solution to control pain, I would recommend using warm procedures on neck, rest, vitamins supplements, sufficient fluids intake.

Drugs that may help improve symptoms in your case are Tramadol, Flupirtine, Carbamazepine and Ibprofen if you aren't allergic to any of them.

Since these are prescription drugs, you should discuss with your primary care Doctor about their use.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist further.

Best regards.
