What Causes Sore Throat With Headaches And Ear Pain?

default
Posted on Mon, 12 May 2014
Question: These symptoms started Saturday morning. My throat was sore but no cough and I had a slight headache. Took some ibuprofen and spent the day out at a fair. Around 6-7 o clock when we got in the car and started driving back home, I felt really awful. I had the sore throat with no cough, a headache, fever, and chills. I tried to make a loogy but it hurt when I did and it didn't create anything with infection colors. Also my nose isn't stuffy. The little bit of snot I can get is very dry small pieces. My ears also hurt slightly but the most common pain is when I swallow. I have been trading up ibuprofen and tylenol to handle the pain and fever relief since Sunday. Even being on these relievers, I am still dizzy and my head feels kinda heavy. I do smoke daily as well and go through a pack every 3-4 days.

Brief Answer: Following suggests to sore throat................. Detailed Answer: Hi there, I have gone through your medical history carefully and feel sorry for the situation you are in. All the symptoms you are having are indicative for viral infection with sore throat as unique symptom. Experiencing pain in ears is indicative for a possible ear infection secondary to sore throat (viral infection). I advise to take: - ear drops containing analgesic (you can find it as over the counter) - do gargle of throat with water and salt at least twice daily - I also advise my patients to gargle with olive oil and keep honey in the mouth as longer as possible. - drink plenty of water, tea, fruit juices If the symptoms will persist and you will have chills, fever, headache, a further consultation with your physician is needed to exclude/treat secondary bacterial infection. Wish fast recovery! Dr.Albana
