What Causes Sore Tongue, Metallic Taste In Mouth, Cough With White Phlegm?

Question: Burning sore edges of tongue and metallic taste in mouth for approx 4 mths coughing up white phlegm in morning cannot see an ear nose and throat specialist until dec hoping you can Help this is so depressing! Initially four months ago I had I expect a virus causing laryngitis which lasted most of the time since but voice is now just husky phlegm drips down throat mouth is dry

I am Dr.Muhammad Ahmad. I have read your question completely, i understand your concern and will try to help you in best way possible.

You do need an ENT specialist checkup but as you told thay you cant get it any soon to I will give you some tips.

There are a few things which can help bigtime with your symptoms.

1) Steam inhalation can help you big time I would suggest it twice daily for 4..5 minutes. This will help with the clogged up sinuses and airways.
2) Take tablet Alegra-D it will help with body aches and fever if any plus help with congestion as well.
3) Do take some OTC antihistamin daily at night for example citerizine or loratidine 10mg this will help will allergy and runny nose or congestion.
4) Get a good OTC cough syrup and use it.
5) Steamy bath does help too.
6) Hot drinks help protecting you from dry throat and irritation specially green tea is good for this.
7) If it's viral it will get better by itself if its bacterial it will need antibiotics which need to be prescribed by the doctor.

If things keep getting worsened and you start running high fever then you would probably need antibiotics then I would suggest you to visit your doctor, otherwise in my opinion my suggestions will help you much to get better quick.

Thank you I have had many virus,s before but never suffered with sore tongue and metallic taste in mouth and this is more of the concern for me I've spent a lot of money at chemists and are using med similar to your suggestions ...normal blood tests have shown nothing ..do you think the tongue burning , little white lumps and horrible mouth taste are all from the throat and sinuses and I should not worry too much about the delay in seeing the ent spec thanks again for your help

It may be due to sinus and infection and it may also be contributed by stomach , i don't know if you have stomach issues or not. You shouldn't worry much and you can follow my suggestions expecting good relief... Although you should visit your doctor as soon as possible.
