What Causes Soreness In Gums After Brushing Teeth?

default
Posted on Fri, 9 Jan 2015
Question: Hello. My wife finds that despite brushing her teeth with a soft brush, she experiences soreness in her gums for some time after brushing. Her dentist says she has some slight receding of gums, but she finds this soreness an annoyance. What would be the cause of this, and how might it be controlled? Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Mild gingivitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome.
Thanks for sharing your concern.

As per the history posted here, it appears that your wife has mild to moderate gingivitis. It can be very well corrected after adopting following few measures stated here. They are as follows.

1.Use gum paint, available in the form of tube with chemist. Please ask her to massage her gums with that.
2.Use Hexidine or any other antiseptic mouth wash for next fifteen days.
3.Some teeth might have their gums recceded and root surface is exposed to oral environment, even this can cause gum sensitivity. In that case, very close clinical examination followed by filling is required.

All these measures,if followed religiously should help.In case if her problem persists then please ask her to see a periodontist(specialist dealing exclusively with gum tissues) for further x rays and deep curettage.

Hope it helps.Let me know for further doubts.
Thanks.
Take care.
