What Causes Soreness In The Upper Right Arm?

default
Posted on Fri, 17 Jun 2016
Question: What are the symptoms of a blood clot in the upper arm area? I have had soreness for two-three days in my upper right arm and what feels like a hard line under my skin that extends about 8 inches from my inner elbow (the bend in my arm) upwards on the top of my arm. I have had two pulmonary emboli in the last 20 years resulting from leg blood clots so I am somewhat concerned. It also may be just a pulled tendon since I have been moving some heavy luggage around too.

Brief Answer:
Muscle strain, analgesic

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome.
I have gone through your query.
Few symptoms of blood clot in arm includes swelling, pain, redness and warmth.
Blood clot in arms is not that common when compared to clots in leg.
As you had previous history of your get it examined by local doctor it will be better.

Based on the information, the most probable cause is muscle strain.
You should take NSAID like aceclofenac with muscle relaxants like chlorzoxazone/ tizanidine twice daily for 3-5 days based on the responce. You can ask your local doctor for prescription of this agent. Along with this hot compression and analgesic gel or spray will be beneficial. This will help you.

This provisional advice provided by me is based entirely on the input provided to me. I would suggest examination by the doctor.

I hope this suggestion might be of some help to you. Please accept my answer in case you do not have further queries.
Take care.

I was somewhat confused by you comment; "Few symptoms of blood clot in arm includes swelling, pain, redness and warmth."

Are those symptoms common with arm blood clots or not at all common with arm blood clots? I have all of those symptoms.

Brief Answer:
More likely to be muscle strain based on the information provided by you

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX
Welcome back.
Good to hear from you.

Symptoms of two conditions can be same, but based on intensity and on examination one can differentiate them.

On examination pain is noted both in sprain and in fracture.

As you have mentioned in the first post that you have moved heavy luggage, based on that I feel your symptoms more likely to be due to muscle strain. I would suggest you not to get anxious, get it examined by a local doctor for confirmation.

Hope this helps.
Take care.
