What Causes Soreness On The Ribs Post Heavy Physical Activity?

Please give feedback as requested for.
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
To recapitulate: Male/60 - played last weekend with grandchildren - on a slip and slide - went on it a few times head first - the next day the the soreness on ribs subsided - wife was laying on the top of you and you got soreness on the right side under the ribs - still sore today - wondering if you bruised diaphragm or kidneys.
Well, the bruising inside structures would have caused severe pain, tenderness and associated symptoms like difficulty in breathing, coughing, sneezing; red urine as per the organs involved.
Since you have not mentioned any other symptoms like painful breathing or moving around, I can think of straining of the muscles at the sore spot.
Please have self-examination:
- Take deep breaths and see if it increases local soreness.
- Moving/twisting the body and bending forward and backward.
- Also see if you have any pain in abdomen, nausea, vomiting, distension, bruising at the back portion; if not present, there may possibly be internal injury.
- Local pressure on sore part- if it pans- tenderness indicates local may be muscular problem.
Please check and give me the feedback.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your feedback.
This is most probably costochondritis or muscular sprain with inflammation at the origin and insertions of the muscles.
Continue taking Aleve and go for the following:
Clinical evaluation and an actual examination by a Doctor and an X-ray of the area to rule out any fractures, any further investigations and additional treatment as required/advised by your Doctor.
Avoid any movements that increase the strain.
Take rest if possible.
Warm fomentation helps as is a rubrafacient liniments.
If the discomfort is more, strapping the area helps as it limits the movement of the strained area.
