He has problems with noises My brother drank for over 50 years the last 10 heavy---I was told by the facility he should see a psychiatrist because there is a certain type of dementia that goes with abuse of drinking. He has not had a drink in over 5 years. He is very sensitive to anti-anxiety drugs and has a hard time when they are given to him I would like to have him seen to see what is going on with him

Brief Answer:
rule out any infection.

Detailed Answer:
So your brother is having severe dementia with past history of alcohol intake and CAD . So many a times dementia has a mixed etiology and both alcohol and atherosclerosis may lead to his state. Dementia patients might be restless and agitated sometimes and at that time they have to be given anxiolytic drugs. Also MRI brain would give us valuable information as far as etiology is concerned. One more thing I would like to emphasize is if dementia patient is restless they may be in some discomfort like some infection like a uti etc. And they might not be able to convey that problem. So we. Should actively look for such issues in dementia patient. Hope this helps.
