What Causes Spotting And Mild Cramping Post Endometrial Biopsy?

default
Posted on Fri, 24 Oct 2014
Question: I had an endometrial biopsy this morning. Pain was intense but I didn't know I would get the procedure so no preparation meds taken. I am still cramping heavily and spotting (I bleed heavily 3 weeks a month so rare to just spot). I am, however, visibly bloating in addition to the cramping and pressure on the stomach hurts even more (panty elastic even hurts) when I lie down. I take multiple pain meds for Fibromyalgia so surprised I am still hurting but more worried about the bloating that is steadily increasing by the hour.

Brief Answer:
GIVE YOURSELF TILL EVENING TO FEEL BETTER.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
An endometrial biopsy is a fairly simple outdoor procedure.
It is rare to have such severe discomfort after it.
Mild cramping and spotting is normal for a few hours, but that is about it.
Give yourself a few hours for the painkillers to work.
Just lie down with a hot water bottle in bed.
IF it is not alright by evening, you need to report to your doctor to see that there has been no complication
I am sure you would be fine by then.
All the best

It has been 13 hours now so it is the evening. I have a heating pad on my abdomen but still hurt when fully lying down. Guess I will sleep in my recliner tonight and hope the bloating goes down overnight. I read nothing about this bloat in any articles so is this completely odd? When I lie flat I can usually see my hip bones a little, but I have a mound that looks like I'm pregnant tonight.

Brief Answer:
THE BLOATING IS VERY UNUSUAL

Detailed Answer:
No, the bloating is not normal or common at all.
It is very unusual in fact.
Has the pain not gone down at all ??
If it has not, is it possible to contact your doctor and mention the bloating in particular before you retire for the night ?
Only the doctor would be able to alert you if anything untoward happened during the procedure.

That's comforting - XXXXXXX I live in a rural area and my doctor travels to our area one day a week. So he lives MILES from here - like a 100 or so. The pain is still pretty intense but I am accustomed to pain and my periods are this painful most months. Like I said, it is the bloat worries me. Is this an indicator of possible puncture of the uterus?

Guess if it gets even worse I will head to the closest ER. As usual, I have to be difficult if it is a health issue.

Brief Answer:
SOME MORE DETAILS PLEASE

Detailed Answer:
Can you post a picture of the bloating ?
I know its tough, but any ' pre ' procedure picture too ?
Yes, bloating MIGHT indicate rupture ( puncture ) of the uterus, it is well nigh impossible during a simple biopsy, but not unheard of .
Did the biopsy take long ?
Were you anesthetized during the procedure ?
Was there no bloating at all before the biopsy ?
DId you pick up ANY clue during the biopsy, of any untoward happening ?
If they suspected a uterine rupture, they would have definitely told you so, or warned you, or kept you under observation for longer, knowing that the doctor would be inaccessible afterwards !
