What Causes Stiffening Of Sacroiliac Joints?

default
Posted on Thu, 4 Feb 2016
Question: What do I do when my SI joints seize up? I am out of the country and need to be able to walk. I have stretched, iced and taken Tylenol. Nothing has helped to ease "locked up" condition.

Brief Answer:
Do not ice it, take warm shower is better.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for the query.

I think it is not a good idea to ice it. It restricts the blood flow and further stiffens the muscles. Stretching with cold joints and muscles isn’t best. Warm shower should be immediate. Stretching to relieve pain and stiffness is also better after a warm shower. Some patients of mine prefer alternating hot and cold compresses on painful spots, this more natural pain-relief strategy which you can try.
Once relieved practice good posture. Hunching can be temporary relief but strains the muscles.

Let me know how do you do.
