Brief Answer:
Cervical spondylosis or disc problems.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM

I have gone through your query. Other than strain the reasons which can give such problem is Cervical spondylosis or intervertebral disc problems like disc herniation. X ray of cervical spine in 2 projections will be helpful to rule out this. A consultation with Orthopaedician is well appreciated to rule out this and to manage it.

In that case using soft cervical collars , muscle relaxants like Tizanidine and NASIDs like Aceclofenac will be helpful. You should also go for physiotherapy like TENS , ultrasound therapy , massage etc. Sleep on hard mattress , avoid high pillows and use orthopaedic pillows while sleeping. Use doughnut pillows while sitting.

As a home treatment for now you can do ice pack application , take NSAIDs like Ibuprofen , applying NSAID gels like Diclofenac (Volini) and wear soft cervical collar.

Let me know if anything not clear.
I am happy to help you.
Thanks.
