Question: Hi!

2 days ago I began having stiffness in my right wrist accompanied with a sharp pain in the joint (where it bends). The stiffness prevents me from freely moving my wrist and fingers. Any movement will be painful. It is also sensitive. This has never happened before.

I have a history of high blood pressure and type 2 diabetese.

Brief Answer:
Possible tendonitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello ! Thank you for asking your query on HealthcareMagic.
I have gone through your question and i can understand your concern .

- As per your descriptions, it could be tendonitis (inflammation of the tendons). You need to rest your joint , immobilize it with a help of a splint , take Anti-inflammatory drugs ( keep it within Ibuprofen, Paracetamol or Naproxen ) and use cold compresses. Avoid taking Aspirin.

Other possibilities could be :

- If you have numbness , tingling of the thumb or the first 3 fingers of the nerve could be Carpal tunnel syndrome (a nerve is compressed ). In this case you need to go to a Neurologist/Orthopedician for a detailed examination of the area, and to discuss for the further treatment (in severe cases, possible surgery)

- If you had any past trauma of the wrist, arthritis, it could've been damaged bones and you need to do an X-ray in the first place.

Right now, I would suggest to rest your wrist , take Ibuprofen (the Advil as your taking) for another 2 days, if you don't get better or your pain gets worse you should go to a local physician for a physical examination, an X-Ray of your wrist to confirm the diagnosis and treatment accordingly.

Hope you find the answer helpful .
If you have any further clarifications, i will be happy to help.
