Question : Whilst playing golf yesterday my upper back became stiff below my shoulder blades. I was able to complete the game but have there remains some stiffness and discomfort when I rotate and whenI breathe in deeply. Any ideas

Brief Answer: Likely a muscle strain Detailed Answer: Hi XXXXXXX Thanks for the query. Hows the weather in London - likely much the same as Halifax, fog and rain? From what you have written it sounds like you have a muscle strain in your back. The treatment for a muscle strain is a regular anti-inflammatory drug such as ibuprofen, stretching exercises although painful at 1st can help - a physiotherapist could help with these. Your symptoms if this is the diagnosis should improve fairly rapidly over the next 2-3 weeks. I would avoid golf for this period. If they are ongoing I would make an appointment to see your GP for further investigation. Best wishes
