What Causes Stomach Cramps During 33 Weeks Of Pregnancy?

I am 33 weeks pregnant with twins. Since some days I am having mild cramping in my stomach. My doctor has advised me to take Duvadilan 10 mg tablets thrice a day for 1 month. Is it safe to go ahead with these tablets and prescribed dosage? Also, will it have any side effects on my babies? Earlier I was thinking these cramps are XXXXXXX XXXXXXX contractions and does not require any medication, but since my doctor prescribed this medicine I am worried if I will go into a preterm labor. Please advice.
It will avoid preterm labor.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
At 33 weeks of gestation with a twin pregnancy the chances of preterm labor are high. Since you are having cramps in the abdomen for last few days it is better to start taking Duvadilan as suggested by your gynecologist to avoid the onset of preterm labor. It is a safe drug during pregnancy and can be used in case of need. It is a smooth muscle relaxant and will decrease the cramps. You also need to avoid any travelling and doing any heavy work or lifting any heavy weights or climbing stairs repeatedly to have an optimum effect. It does not have any side effect on the baby. Rather the continuous pains can reduce the fetal blood supply thus decreasing the baby's growth rate.
It is best to continue taking these for at least 2-3 weeks and consider withdrawal in case there are no pains.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
