Question: Hi Doctor

For a month I've been popping small flakes along with some normal stools and also pass spot of mucous with bright red blood.

When I go to the bathroom i pass a lot of wind and get bad cramps before these flakes and mucous come out. I'm booked in to see a specialist in a couple of weeks but is there anything I can do to relieve the symptoms until then?

Thank you
doctor

Brief Answer:
Inflamatory bowel disease/malabsorption

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.

1. Having floating stool are indicative for malabsorption.

2. The presence of mucus is suggesting inflammatory processes.

3. The bright red blood in stool might be related to fissure as you have reported in other queries you asked in this platform.

Taking all these into account, further examinations are needed to determine the right diagnosis :
- malabsorption testing
- colonoscopy
- culture of stool
You can discuss this further with your doctor.

For the moment, I advise to :
- start to use probiotic
- keep a good local (anal) hygiene
- increase water intake
- avoid foods high in fat, lactose or sugar

Hope it was of help!
