What Causes Stomach Discomfort, Nausea And Rapid Weight Loss?

default
Posted on Wed, 2 Dec 2015
Question: My Dad is having severe stomach discomfort, nausea, generally feeling unwell and losing weight rapid. He was 19 stone 3 pounds and in 6 months he is now 16 stone 6 pounds (he has been actively trying to lose weight). Dad is a Type II Insulin Diabetic and has a complexed history of spinal osteomyelitis. Dads insulin has been cut down more than half also he was on a very high amount

Dad has a gastroscopy which has come back unremarkable just showing fundal cystic polyps. Biopsies were taken but there are no abnormalities. To be safe they have referred him for a CT scan of the thorax, abdomen and pelvis.

I am really worried my Dad has cancer. What else can it be and if it was cancer would the biopsies of detected it.

Dad has had 12 months of Augmentin antibiotics but now osteomyelitis is under control these have now stopped. Can his problems be due to long term antibiotics and/or his Diabetes? Dads Diabetes is now in control and has been uncontrolled for many years but it is finally under control

Dad does currently have shingles so can this interfere with his appetite. I am so upset it maybe cancer but all tests up to now are negative (so hopefully this is good)

Brief Answer:
Please follow the suggestions below. ..

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking!

I read carefully all your Dad's concerns and I can say as follows :

1. Since he has done gastroscopy and nothing wrong was found, to my opinion stomach tumor hase been ruled out.

2. His symptoms may be related with :
- Gi candida overgrowth
- pancreatic issues
- gastroparesis as a result of uncontrolled diabetes for many years

3.With regards to shingles infection, his symptoms are not typical for it.
Otherwise firstly he should ruled out the more serious causes that I have mntioned above.

This is why I totally agree with your doctor about doing total body CT-scan.
Please can you discuss with your treating doctor about exams like:
-GI motility study exam to rule out/ confirm gastroparesis
-fecal exam for candida overgrowth since he has used augmentine for a long time.

Meantime I suggest to :
- eat often and small amount of meal
- avoid bean, broccoli, carbonated drinks, alcohol
- use probiotics
- avoid fatty foods
-avoid unnecessary stress.

Hope it was helpfulto you.

Detailed Answer:
Hi back
Let me explain again:
- upper endoscopy has ruled out stomach tumor and cystic polips are not malign tumors.
- Ct scan will help to rule out/ confirm pancreatic issues that unfortunately includes and pancreatic tumor.

Wish him a fast recovery.
