What Causes Strange Taste In Mouth?

default
Posted on Mon, 10 Aug 2015
Question: Hi,

I've got a strange taste in my mouth which my dentist cant seem to cure. So recently I had a stool analysis done and I'm going to link the results to you as I dont really know what they mean. Could you take a look and offer some advice or let me know what the results mean please? My anaerobic bacteria seems to be a problem? I dont have any symptoms or stomach problems, just this frustrating taste in my mouth.
Thanks a lot.

Brief Answer:
Antibiotics are mainstay of treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query at HCM.
I understand your concern and situation.

You are having intestinal bacterial overgrowth syndrome as evident by the reports. In this situation you may get taste disorders due to the sulfur produced by anaerobic bacteria. Such patients also suffer from unintentional weight loss, nutritional deficiencies, and osteoporosis. I advise you to eat foods like celery and carrots. Drink plenty of water to produce enough saliva. Use Chlorhexidine 0.2% oral gargle for 3-4 times per day. Maintain oral hygiene by proper bushing. The antibiotics is the mainstay for treatment such as metronidazole, amoxicillin clavulanate or ciprofloxacin for about 2 weeks under doctors prescription. You must also take multivitamins and calcium supplement regularly. Proper treatment will resolve the symptoms.
