What Causes Strong Emotional Feelings After Stopping Lupron Injection?

default
Posted on Thu, 27 Nov 2014
Question: I stopped my Lupron Injections one year and ten months ago. For several months I had strong emotional feelings which have subsided. Now I still have strong itcing around my ankles and legs.
I still have insomnia many nights.
I received my injections every three months for a period of 12 years starting in May 2000.
Can I do something about this and how long yet before the Lupron will leave my body?

Brief Answer:
Its a long period

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for choosing health care magic for posting your query.
I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through.
Lupron dose cause emotional problems. Well one and half years is quite a long period for a medication to still have its effects even after stopping it. Its quite unlikely that the itching and insomnia that you are experiencing is due to the Lupron.
I think it would be wise to treat it as an independent problem. For insomnia I would suggest that initially uou follow all the steps of a good sleep hygiene:
1) Have some aerobic workouts during day preferably in the morning.
2) Have a light dinner.
3) Completely avoid coffee/tea/alcohol/energy drinks/coke/smoking.
4) Have a warm water bath before going to sleep.
5) Dont try very hard to go to sleep. If you are not sleepy then sit on a couch or sofa and do some reading and go to the bed only when you are sleepy.
6) Avoid watching tv or working on laptop/computer or bright screens at night.
7) Keep the lighting of your bedroom dim and make your bed every morning after you wake up so that you get a cozy bed to sleep at night.
8) Use your bedroom only for sleeping and resting and do not do any other work there.
9) Avoid afternoon nap for any reason.
Further if you still have insomnia, then you may use a short course of sleeping pills like zolpidem or clonapzepam for 7 days and then gradually get it wothdrawn.
For intractable itching I would suggest that you should try Duloxetine in 20 mg or 30 mg strength which is very effective in such itching periods. For occasional itch even use of antihistaminics like cetrizine should be very useful.
Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
