Brief Answer:
Steam inhalation would be greatly beneficial.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone through your query and understand your concerns. It seems that your child is suffering from a upper respiratory tract infection. Such a thing occurs due to certain viral infections and irrespective of treatment it takes 5-7 days for recovery. However, giving him steam inhalation should provide relief. Water in form of vapor reaches deep inside and helps in diluting the cough and thus provides relief. Also give him some antiallergic like cetirizine once daily for next few days.

Feel free to write back in case of further queries.
