What Causes Sudden Breast Mass Gain?

My question is not entirely odd, as it seems to be a question asked by women on the internet (yes I googled it), but I never truly received a satisfactory answer. I am a 38 year-old woman who exercises regularly and I think I'm in fairly good health. To my knowledge, I have not dramatically changed any of my eating habits, etc. Anyway. My breasts seem to have gone up a full cup size without my having gained significant weight. In the past, when I've gained weight, it's been distributed fairly evenly. For the past year, I have actually required a bra when running (ha) and have non-painful sensitivity in that area. So....what could it be?
Possible muscular growth or fibroadenomas
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for using Healthcaremagic.
I read carefully your question and it doesn't seem odd at all to me. Glad that you felt free to ask it.
The tissues that normally form the mass of the breast are the 1) breast tissue, 2)fat, and 3) muscle. So when one of these increases in mass, the breast seems larger.
I don't think that the breast tissue does increase in your age group, and you are saying that you haven't gained weight so the fat tissue is less likely to be the cause of increasing your breast mass.
Logically that leaves us with 2 possible options:
- Either your pectoral muscles are larger because of your exercises with them.
- Or you have not normal tissue in them. With that I mean fibroadenomas, which are benign nodular masses that are very common in woman of your age. A breast ultrasound would confirm or rule that out.
I hope this makes sense and have answered your question.
Let me know if you have other questions or concerns.
Regards,
