Question: I'm about to go on a flight from London to NY. Am feeling a bit light headed and have had a bit of unexpected bleeding from my nose. Urine appears a bit darker then normal. What can it possibly be and what should I do?

Brief Answer:
more information is required

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

feeling lightheaded is a very vague symptom and can't be evaluated easily. Sometimes it's just fatigue but I couldn't tell without a complete physical examination and medical history with all the details. If you could provide more details it might help. For example do you have a spinning sensation or imbalance? Do you feel nauseous?

Nose bleeding does not seem relevant. If may occur unexpectedly particularly in patients who have a history of frequent bleeding or if you're having an upper respiratory tract infection. Bleeding may also occur in patients with bleeding tendency (faulty coagulation system or platelets) and various nasal disorders (chronic rhinitis, tumors, etc). If the bleeding can't be contained with external pressure then investigation would be required to determine the cause and a visit to the ENT to stop it.

"Dark" urine is usually caused by lack of water in the body (dehydration). This has to be dark yellow. Any color besides yellow may mean disease, certain food (like beet roots) or drugs that change the urine color. For example dark brown (like brandy) color means jaundice which is something that requires investigation. Sometimes jaundice can be related to a bleeding tendency (in patients with serious liver disease).

So, if the bleeding stopped soon after it started, if bleeding can be explained by your history, if the urine is dark yellow (and not dark red or dark brown) and you don't have vertigo, it's probably nothing urgent. Otherwise visiting a doctor would be the best thing to do.

I hope it helps!
Kind Regards!
