What Causes Sudden Dizziness, Fainting Spell And Profuse Sweating During Urination?

default
Posted on Thu, 5 Nov 2015
Question: This morning 5.a.m. I went (as I do frequently) to have a pee. I am 79 years old. I began to feel dizzy and faint after each little pee until suddenly I cashed to the floor, must have passed out for a minute, lay there, sweat pouring off me, lay there until I could gradually drag myself back to my bedroom, crawled in to bed, lay there dozing, and by 7 a.m. felt fine, although when I got downstairs I felt a bit weak. Got to go out to give a talk tonight, so hope this event doesn't recur: will take it easy today, but would appreciate your advice. Dizziness has happened before, but not fainting

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern, your symptoms seem to be related to orthostatic intolerance (orthostatic hypotension) or to a postmixional syncope.

Today I would advise you to avoid prolonged up right position (staying on your feet) and in closed overcrowded places, with warm highly humid air.

These factors can exacerbate orthostatic hypotension.

I recommend consulting with your attending doctor (cardiologist) in order to achieve the optimal diagnostic conclusions regarding autonomic dysfunction.

A head up tilt test is necessary to rule in / out a possible autonomic dysfunction.

Hope to have been helpful!

Feel free to ask any other questions whenever you need!

Greetings! Dr. Iliri
