What Causes Sudden Dizziness?

default
Posted on Tue, 28 Nov 2017
Question: Hello doctors,

So ive been having RUQ/GI pain and problems for sometime now, but lately ive been getting boutes of nausea for no reason. Tonight i did, ans upon getting home a bit ago, got hit with sudden lightheadedness (not vertigo i dont believe) and dont know what to think. I had a physical recently (but not a stress test, due to doing one not too long ago) and the only thing they noticed was elevated cholesterol (184 at 30 years old). I am overweight and in certain diet is 100% the cause of that.

I do not have any chest, arm, or jaw pain. Just the lightheadedness and nausea.
I only mention it just to provide more information.

Im a college student so an ER visit would be rather expensive.

Brief Answer:
Please give additional information. Take rest and Liquids

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thank for your query.
Noted the history well and understood your concerns.
With the history of RUQ pain, the nausea is an obvious reflex response of the body in most of the cases. So the reason is pain in abdomen.
There is no certain cause of light headedness as many things can cause this.
Hence please let me know some additional details:
Any feverishness?
Had stress, anxiety or long hours of study/work?
Any increase in pain in abdomen?
Further details about pain in RUQ: since when is the problem? where exactly is the pain? Any radiation of pain to any other part like back or right shoulder?
Any bloating, loose or hard stools?
Please give detailed history.

Take rest and electrolyte solution with plenty of fluids you like and suit you.
See the response, it is possible that light headedness may go away. But also watch for any increase in the present problems or any additional symptoms and let me know.

Awaiting for your details.

No fevers or shakes. I dont know if i would call it anxiety but i have been a little stressed about money (with bills and school and all).

There has almost always been an increase in abdominal pain, mainly when eating highly fatty foods (such as fast food).

RUQ pain has been going on for years; had an MRI, CT, and endoscopy. All found nothing. Pain is below the right rib, ocasionally on the right side of ribcage. It does radiate to the back and shoulders sometimes. Loose stools more often but my stools havent been consistent for years.

Im just wondering if this sudden lightheadedness is something cardiac or worrisome .

Brief Answer:
As detailed.

Detailed Answer:
Anxiety is a possible cause as I have mentioned above.
Increase in pain in abdomen on eating high fatty foods, particularly fast indicates the following:
Hyper-acidity.
Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction. This is a sphincter that governs the release of bile and pancreatic juice in duodenum on reaching the food, particularly rich in fats. One needs MRCP/ HIDA scan or ERCP. Please discuss about these with your Doctor so that a proper investigations help you to get the proper diagnosis as your MRI, CT and Endoscopy are normal.
Get a stool test too.
Light headedness may be cardiac if there are other symptoms as you have mentioned above.
I hope this answer helps you further.

My GI doctor ruled out sphincter of oddi from the MRI. I had my gallbladder removed 12 years ago (but the RUQ pain started about 2 years ago), im wondering if this strong abdominal pain (that has carried into the next day - today) couldve been caused by me eating a really high fat and sugar diet yesterday.

My fear is that this is some type of liver or pancreatic failure, even though the blood work on my physical showed that both of those organs are fine .

Brief Answer:
IBS or Intolerance most probably

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for disclosing the history one by one as removal of gallbladder 12 years ago and pain for 2 years is an important history.

If all the investigations are normal then this pain can be due to IBS or intolerance to some foods or beverages.

One of the treatment is the prevention of the cause, meaning you need to stop the foods and beverages that you may have noticed to instigate or enhance the pain.

Control of stress and anxiety can add on for betterment.

Feel free to ask further.
Regards

Im having the recurring bouts of nausea, even when i do eat healthy. What could be causing recurring nausea accompanied with RUQ pain?
doctor
Answered by Dr. T Chandrakant (2 hours later)
Brief Answer:
As discussed

Detailed Answer:
As discussed above, the nausea can be due to multiple reasons and anything that makes body and mind sick can cause nausea. Your Upper GI Endoscopy is normal hence can not say about the exact cause and symptomatic treatment with Antacids and Domperidone should help you.
Think of IBS or intolerance to some foods and beverages.

Ive developed over the past few days, a new pain in which both of my sides/both sides of my back are experiencing a dull and sharp pain. All of the sudden, furthering my fear of cancer. I had some blood taken (amylase, lipase, trypsin, and CBC) and urinalysis to see if anything is our of whack (still waiting on results). Would cancer be detected in these tests?

Ive had an mri this year and an endoscopy a few weeks ago but they didnt see the pancreas, liver, or kidneys and im terrified of something fatal .

Its more of a dull ache thats occuring more on the left side but is also present a bit on the right. Its sudden (as of thursday morning) and hasnt gotten better (except for the combination of movement and ibuprofen). However, tonight sitting in my chair, this pain is very much present.

It seems that theres a minor ache of the same nature in the center of my back when i turn my torso.

Ive had irregular bowel movements for years now (before and since the RUQ pain started). I was told that my urine had a strong smell but no immediate sign of infection (but they still sent it off for analysis).

I dont have chills, fever, shakes, or anything, so i dont believe its the flu, but i could be wrong.

I started taking dicyclomine but stopped seeing if that could cause muscular or pancreatic/kidney pain, but nothing yet .

Brief Answer:
As detailed.

Detailed Answer:
The pain you have explained looks more of a muscular than related to kidney, it may be myospasm that is muscle spasm and Ibuprofen may help you by taking at 8 hourly interval. There can be relief or increase in pain on pressure.

The pain of the kidney can be spasmodic if there is stone at the junction of kidney pelvis to ureter or dull ache if infection and obstruction. Fever and chills can occur due to urinary tract infection too.
This can be easily diagnosed by an ultrasonography to see for the kidneys, ureters, pancreas and liver. Please get an Ultrasonography done either to confirm or rule out there said causes.
Let me know the reports.
