Question : Last night I suddenly awoke to an explosive noise coming from my mouth the origin was stomach or bowell it was so intense more like a bad cough than a burp bet was from my gut. My bowll is quite sluggish but this noise was with incredible force and so load that it woke me.What can cause this .I have a hiatis hernia and history of reflux and have never been able to burp even as a baby.Should I be concerned?

Explosive noise coming from the stomach is most often a burp secondary to acid reflux. There is nothing to concerned about. Here is how you should go about it

1. Tab Omeprazole once a day for 7 days is the ideal drug for acid reflux
2. Do not go to sleep immediately after dinner, wait for atleast 2 hours
3. Avoid smoking,caffeine, milk and milk products
4. Let the head end be slightly elevated while sleeping, i tell my patients to keep two pillows
