YES / go to ER
Detailed Answer:
Hi friend
Welcome to Health Care Magic
The BP is high / not extremely high
You need examination and investigation
Kidney function, electrolytes and hormones, EKG are generally done, in such situations…
Sudden outpouring of adrenaline – in conditions like Pheochromocytoma - can cause such a thing and needs evaluation
Good luck
God bless you

Thank you for your response. I just have my blood lab. and my GFR is 71 and my sodium is 140. So, do you think I should still go to my doctor and have an EKG ?
As I said I am taking Atenolol 25 mg every morning. Do you think my doctor should increase my dosage ? I just took my bp and it is now 159/82. I took one baby aspirin and drank a lot of cold water.
Can you suggest things that I should do so that my blood pressure can be controlled ?

Brief Answer:
YES - you should
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Yes, still you should go
The episodic rise can be documented and treated / and tests during the event may shed more light
EKG is an extension of clinical examination / routine / must be done
The dose of atenolol is up to 100 mg.
He may double the dose to 50 as a first step… it may bring down the pulse rate…
Generally another medicine of a different class like ACEI (Angiotensin Converting Enzyme Inhibitor, like ramipril) or ARB (Angiotensin Receptor Blocker like valsartan) as also a Diuretic (water pill like thiazide) – is added
Most people take 2 or 3 drugs (in combination, when stabilised)
Relax! Physical and psychological relaxation is the important thing to do – at this junction
Reduce the amount of salt / caffeine (cola, coffee, energy drinks)
Regards
