What Causes Sudden Numbness In Face, Fingers And Feet?

default
Posted on Sat, 29 Aug 2015
Question: I am a farmer involved in hard physical activities. Last week while performing heavy lifting repairing farm machinery I noticed numbness in my face/fingers/feet on my right side. I have not lost any range of motion or dexterity. Just numbness. At first I ignored it thinking it over stress. While the numbness in the fingers and hands have improved. My lower right leg and toes have been getting slightly worse. I have not gone to my GP yet giving it some time to see if it will improve on its own. This began Aug 7th 2015. I am beginning to get concerned.

Brief Answer:
Neurological examination.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist,here to answer your query.

With this medical history,I believe you should get yourself physically examined by a neurologist.Since it involved the face as well, the possibility of a brain pathology needs to be ruled out.A brain imaging study may need to be done. But,it must be guided by examination's findings.

If you have any follow up questions,I shall be glad to answer else please close the thread, rate it and write a review as your rating will be of help to me.

Thank you for your follow up. I have been having chronic sinus infections since March. My gp ordered me a CT scan of my sinus in XXXXXXX It showed swelling of the sinus passages and I am also seeing a allergist. Would the CT scan that I just had be helpful? That is the reason for the steroids. I also am on very good terms with my GP of over 30 years. I have also been on septra three times this year and ceftin once. My allergist also recommended changing occupations. At my age and with my lifetime backround and investment in farming this is not a option. The numbness gets better during the day when I am active but returns during bedrest. Should I give this a few days to see if it works itself out or go see someone soon?

As if 10:30pm CDT Wednesday the 12th my right arm is showing signs of weaker that average muscle fatigue and stiffness. I am a left handed person. I am going to my GP tomorrow and start from there. It is difficult to type and I can no longer have any feeling in my teeth or gums on the right side. I have a excellent command of the English language with a college education and yet words are difficult to come to me. Once again I am concerned.
