What Causes Sudden Onset Of Pain And Restricted Movement In Arm?

default
Posted on Tue, 14 Jul 2015
Question: I was just sitting reading a book when suddenly I felt a pain on the inside of my arm about one inch below my wrist. The pain intensifies when I try to open and close my hand. Not sure if I pinched a nerve or did something else. I rubbed the inside of my arm where the pain is and I think I feel a little tender spot or puffy place where the exact pain is. (this is all happening on my right arm)

I did a comparison to my left arm and right arm and there is a very slight difference with the puffy spot. Any suggestions?

Brief Answer:
Keep under observation.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist,here to answer your query.

Its unlikely that such a localised pain with a tender spot is due to a pinched nerve.Possibly its originating in underlying muscles or associated/supporting structures.Meanwhile,if its severe, please take some muscle relaxant, and keep observing.I hope it should improve soon.If it persists more than a couple of days, please get it examined by a physician(examination is must in this case,to make a concrete diagnosis).

Hope I have answered your query. If you have some further questions,I shall be glad to answer else please close the thread, rate it and write a review as your rating will be of help to me.

Thank you for your response. The pain seems to spread into the elbow and all of the lower arm as well. It hurts to type or do anything repetitive with the right hand.

Should I ice the area or not?

Brief Answer:
Please visit the ER.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXX,
Thanks for being in follow-up.

In that case, you should immediately visit an ER.Timely diagnosis is important to prevent any complications. Its hard to guess what it can be,without doing a physical examination.

Hope this helps. Please close the thread, rate it and write a review as your rating will be of help to me.
