Question: My mom is 98 years old and she all of a sudden started breathing shallow, tongue sticking out and drooling, her eyes kinda glazed, and non-responsive. I patted her face as well as yelling with no response. Finally she snapped out of it and doesn't even remember it happening.

Brief Answer:
Transient ischemic attack most probably

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

At your mother's age, those episodes may be caused by temporary impairment of the brain blood supply.

Changes in blood pressure values (very high or very low), narrowing of the lumen of vessels that supply the brain with blood, arrhythmias, etc. may cause transient ischemic attack or even stroke.

Please discuss with your mother's Doctor about these issues.

Her doctor may find necessary to order tests (cardiac workup, Doppler ultrasound of the neck arteries, monitoring of the blood pressure, etc.) after examining your mom.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care.
