What Causes Sudden Swelling And Pain In My Lower Neck?

Question: Last Friday I awoke to a swelling in my lower neck left side above clavicle , very painful ,pain has eased off a good bit but swelling still there and very firm any idea what this could be ?

This lump likely represents a swollen lymph node. Lymph nodes often increase in size in response to an infection/inflammation etc. The generally take a longer time to get resolved after the caused has been addressed. its acute nature means that it is less likely to be due to a chronic infection or cancerous process.

In all, likely due to an infection/inflammation. Would resolve with time but you would need to exercise some patience and stay calm about this.

Had a slight sore throat prior but not bad
On first day of swelling I felt dreadful and never ate for 24hours then felt loads better

Should the swelling go down on its own or would antibiotics be required as need to get back to normal for my job as self employed
